This first type of digital sensor is in essence a combination of a camera and a set of computer vision algorithms. In real-time, the video feed of the camera is analyzed by means of these algorithms at the source. The result of the analysis is transmitted (wirelessly) to the CM-DSS. Per minute, the CM-DSS receives a message consisting of various pieces of information (all of which are numeric values). For instance, the flow of pedestrians over a cross-section within the last minute, the average number of moving objects in the field of view or the speed of the pedestrians in the field of view within the last minute. The video feed itself is erased as soon as it is analyzed and is not stored in the analysis unit at the source nor any database of the CM-DSS.
